The biggest off-shore powerboat series in the UK came to London to recognize the 2007 season in style as Steve Curtis MBE and managing director of F4SA took to the stage alongside Fifth Gears presenter Tiff Needell to present the winning teams with their awards.
The prestigious party welcomed special guests from Honda, Ebel, ITV4, not to mention over 40 teams involved in the sport, organizers, volunteers and crew. Series winners Negotiator 225 and Lings 150 were applauded on stage as they stepped up to receive the titles they had fought so hard for last year.
Martin Sanders, General Manager Honda Motor Europe Power Equipment was recognized for his dedication and support over the last 5 years he has been involved with the sport and was awarded the ‘Wilkinson Sword of Achievement’. Other awards went to Airwaves who took second place and Raymarine who came third in the 225 class. In the 150 class Salcombe Racing we placed second just ahead of Premier Cru.
Four more awards were handed over by Steve Curtis and Tiff Needell for the following categories; the ‘Close Shave’ award went to X-Pole, ‘Rookies of The Year’ was picked up by Cider Daze, the ‘Airwaves Kick It up a Gear’ award was given to ITV4 Fearless and the ‘Raymarine Ladies Trophy’ went out to Suzy Smith of Spirit Racing.
“The past few months have seen some positive changes to the series, including the introduction of a few new boats in both classes which should really shake up the competition this year. The awards ceremony welcomes the start of the new look Honda F4SA and our plans to build on our current success are in full flow. I have no doubt that this series will go from strength to strength as a result of the backing we receive,” said, Steve Curtis, F4SA Managing Director.
Now with the 2008 season looming the Honda F4SA team will be busy pulling together five show stopping events in time for the launch of the series in Torquay in May. This is without doubt going to be a big year for everybody involved with this thrilling and expanding off-shore racing.
